A year ago I bought a Yamaha GC1, I did not have the one in the store, I asked for a new one. When the piano arrived, I was not too happy about the sound, it didn't sound as good as the one in the store, I regretted that I had asked for a new one. The tone was not mellow, sounded a bit like a "not so good soprano", a bit like one of the judges of " So You Think You Can Dance", Mary Murphy when she screams. I hoped the tuning would improve it. After the first free tuning, nothing much had changed; the tuner told me that I was too sensitive. Then I hoped that time would make it sound better. At the beginning of this year I had a different tuner in for the second tuning, still not much improvement.
This morning I got another tuner in, after one and half hour there was no sign of finishing, I had go to work and left him behind doing his job. This evening my daughter told me he did not finish until one hour later after I had left this morning, two and half hours! My daughter said that the tuner told her the piano was very out of tune. I was totally overwhelmed when I played a simple tune on the piano: it sounds great, the sound is pure and mellow. In my daughter’s words, the piano now sings, and such wonderful sound makes her want to learn how to play. I feel it sounds now very much like the piano in those CDs of classical music recording.
Thinking back, the piano was very much out of tune at the very beginning, and the first two tuners either were not good or did not bother to spend more time to get it properly tuned.
The moral of my story is to keep trying different tuners until you are totally satisfied.
By the way, I called the tuner home to thank him, the wife answered the phone, she was surprised and very much pleased that I appreciate very much her husband’s work.
