C3
« on: August 09, 2009, 06:02 AM »

I've already posted about the need to trade a grand for an upright. Here's a related question that may help us out in our search for the solution that's best for us.

What's better? A mid-level Yamaha or Kawai grand (we currently have a C3) or a comparably priced European upright? If one's experience is with such a grand, then is one likely to be happy with an upright?

What uprights are closest to a grand in feel and control?

So far, the only premium uprights we've tried are Grotrian Concertino an Sauter M-line. Both wonderful pianos, and both seem to offer better action and control than our current C3.

If you were in our shoes, would you opt for a premium upright or pick up something serviceable (used Yamaha or Kawai) until space and budget permits another (and hopefully better) grand? That said, it may be some time before space permits.
